the antidote to fear...
I met this man the other day. He was interesting, spoke a good game and laughed at himself. He shared his grandiose dream. It was scary, so far from being realisable that I was uncomfortable. I wanted to stop him. Yet he persists.
Seems for ten years he sat in a darkened studio in Ipswich, England, spent more than a Bentley on kit, then spent years trying to learn to use it. He was trying to progress his vision. That old chestnut of 'Being Entertainer'. A vision he's had all his life.
Then he found himself on another continent, all safety nets gone, money flying out the door, limited time, pressure... And 'still' even more focused, he carried on - risking.
His writing was now influenced by this adventure. An immigrant, four by fours, lakes and different air of Canada and the great North American continent.
He left security and his home to grieve, be uncomfortable, out of control and 'almost desperate' as the rubber truly hits the road.
The chips are falling to the table and he looks to the last roll of those dice. So he has to step. Do or die. Or to hide the dream away, keep it safe, admit defeat.
Now, as when waves hitting the cliff face create the greatest energy, his dead line is approaching causing him to step, risk, imperfect and...
Yet he is held. Held by his past, his name, his perfectionism, his fears. This man needs to find a way to step - to freedom...
I met this man the other day, he spoke a good game. That man, he was me.
